If you’ve ever wondered how food businesses make sure the food they serve is safe to eat? Well, that's where HACCP comes into the picture. HACCP, which stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, is a set of guidelines that businesses follow to identify and control potential food hazards.
These hazards can usually occur during food production and handling and can be anything that might make the food unsafe, like bacteria, chemicals, or physical objects. With HACCP, businesses have predefined corrective actions to take if a food defect is detected.
These actions can be things like adjusting the process, giving employees HACCP training, reworking the product, or even recalling the product if necessary. The goal is to quickly address any issues and prevent unsafe food from reaching consumers.
By following HACCP guidelines, businesses can identify and control potential hazards, establish critical control points, monitor processes, take corrective actions, and keep detailed records. This systematic approach helps businesses prevent foodborne illnesses, protect their reputation, comply with regulations, and build trust with consumers.
