Mitti (by SafetyCulture)’s online forklift operator course includes lessons on vehicle inspections and maintenance that can affect emission levels. While it's not a dedicated exhaust course, it covers applicable skills to one of the most common heavy vehicles in manufacturing. Because of this, it can serve as supplemental material for emissions training.
This course highlights engine oil checks where your team can assess viscosity, condition, and content, all of which influence the pollutants emitted by forklifts. It also emphasizes engine hose diagnoses, urging workers to evaluate for leaks that could compromise emission control.
Additionally, the training material stresses tire wear evaluations. Worn tires can indirectly affect forklift engine exhaust by increasing fuel consumption, leading to higher emissions. Understanding this procedure helps teams comply with fume regulations while minimizing costs.
Emission inspections and maintenance involve numerous procedures that teams must remember and complete. Mitti (by SafetyCulture) features a file storage briefcase to support skills learned from training. You can store protocols, manuals, and guides in the app, where your teams can easily access them on their shared devices.
This video-based course from the California Air Resources Board offers an overview of inspection and maintenance (I/M) procedures related to heavy-duty vehicle emissions. It tackles smoke viscosity tests, fume control tools, and exhaust gauges.
Course 3
Penn Foster’s heavy vehicle training focuses on addressing diesel-powered engine and fuel issues to comply with permissible noxious emissions. The course details engine components, repair guidelines, performance testing, and essential tools to maintain vehicle standards.
This course on maintaining and repairing heavy natural gas vehicles (NGV) includes lessons on vehicle emission systems. The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute’s industrial truck modules teach operators diagnostics, maintenance routines, and best practices for specific engine types. These skills can help control gas exhaust levels.
BIS Safety Software offers vehicle inspection training that covers fuel systems, exhaust components, and hose pieces, which can determine emission levels. The course applies to heavy transport vehicles used in production cycles, such as haulers and tractor-trailers.
SAE International’s course features a module on diesel engine emissions that can build your workers’ knowledge on emissions inspections and diagnosis. The lesson discusses how diesel combustions produce pollutants through heat diagrams. It also covers the benefits of modern diesel power in meeting permissible emission standards.
This course is a registered program for the unit of competency in Australia, specifically for diagnosing and repairing heavy vehicle emission control systems. Assured Learning’s training explores fuel analysis, diagnostic tools, and reduction systems that can be applied to trucks in manufacturing operations.
GTG Training delivers a vehicle emissions testing course compliant with the Euro VI Emission Control systems. It’s an in-person class based in the United Kingdom, teaching teams on exhaust testing sensors, service procedures, and repair strategies for safer discharges.
The following course is for registered heavy-duty and diesel engine mechanic apprentices in Winnipeg, Manitoba. RRC Polytech offers instructor-led training tackling repairs for emission reduction systems, including exhaust gas recirculation systems and selective catalytic reduction systems.
Diesel Training’s course for emission reduction systems is available for organizations based in Columbia, Dallas, and Chicago. This training guides your workers through the operation, maintenance, and repair of aftertreatment components. These include oxidation catalysts and particulate filters, as well as the actuators that affect them.

View author profileIndustrial emissions are among the biggest challenges that the manufacturing industry must address. Given that the fumes emitted by heavy vehicles are the most scrutinized, your organization’s trucks, transporters, and cranes must stay compliant. To help teams meet standards, here are 10 vehicle emissions training courses.
Emissions training teaches workers to prevent harmful vehicle emissions during manufacturing operations. The course covers regulations, inspections, and maintenance practices to make sure that heavy vehicles used in production and distribution emit only permissible levels.
Training teams to manage vehicle emissions represents a crucial step in addressing manufacturing industry challenges. It’s a clear commitment to meeting operational excellence across various metrics. Let’s discuss how:
Compliance with legal requirements: Trained workers adhere to laws governing the types and amount of gases emitted by trucks, cranes, and transporters.
Dedication to environmental protection: Reducing your organization’s carbon footprint cultivates trust from crucial stakeholders, including surrounding communities.
Enhanced safety management: Managing engine emissions protects your employees from diseases caused by pollutants like carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides.
Increased quality assurance: Vehicles with safe emission levels can effectively complete load handling and transportation tasks that impact output quality.
Reduced operational costs: Industrial emissions training promotes vehicle maintenance that minimizes expenses related to costly repairs and penalties.
Teams must have a deep understanding of various vehicle emission standards, concepts, and practices to apply them effectively throughout the production cycle. Here are the industrial emission topics relevant to manufacturing:
Greenhouse gas (GHG) regulations: This guides your team through mandated limitations on the amount of CO2, NOx, HC, and particulate matter emitted by vehicles.
Environmental impact of harmful emissions: Workers can learn the effects of vehicle fumes, including the decrease in air quality and an increase in climate temperatures.
Health risks from engine discharges: Training explains the hazards of exposure to unsafe emissions, such as pneumonia, cancer, and stroke.
Emission inspection tools and procedures: The topic teaches employees how to collect and interpret data from infrared gas exhaust analyzers, smoke opacity tests, and exhaust sampling.
Repairs for faulty emission systems: This outlines the causes of and repairs to subpar vehicle exhausts, including defective fuel injectors, leaking engine manifolds, and clogged particulate filters.
Operation and maintenance best practices: Crew members can explore routine engine tune-ups, on-time oil changes, route planning, and load optimization that help manage emissions.
Introduction to zero-emission technologies: Training inducts operators to new technologies like battery electric vehicles that significantly reduce emissions.
Manufacturing compliance, whether in vehicle emissions, transport management, or safety and quality assurance, demands the effective implementation of improvements. Training is one of the most fitting strategies for this objective; however, it presents significant challenges.
