In this article, we’ll break down the top 10 free cleaning courses online with certificates to help your team deal with these challenges without breaking the bank.
The cleaning industry is thriving, and the numbers prove it. In 2024, the global cleaning services market was valued at a staggering $415.93 billion and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 6.9% through 2030. North America holds over 37% of the market share, thanks to rising demand for both residential and commercial cleaning services.
This growth is fueled by increased awareness of hygiene, advanced cleaning technologies, and a shift toward sustainable practices. With such rapid expansion, the need for skilled and well-trained cleaning staff has never been more critical.
What is cleaning training?
Cleaning training is all about teaching people the right skills and techniques to clean effectively and safely. It’s essential for anyone working in cleaning—whether in homes, offices, or specialized facilities like hospitals.
For cleaning teams, training can build confidence and help reduce mistakes. For managers, it can ensure high-quality work and boost their reputation. So, investing in cleaning training pays off for everyone involved.
Cleaning training programs typically focus on a few key areas essential for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and professionalism. Here's what they usually cover:
Basic techniques: How to dust, mop, vacuum, and disinfect properly.
Product knowledge: Understanding which cleaning supplies to use for different surfaces, and the hazards associated with using certain chemicals.
Equipment use: Learning to operate tools like vacuum cleaners or floor scrubbers.
Safety practices: Following guidelines to avoid accidents and maintain proper hygiene.
How to train cleaning staff
Training cleaning staff is key to getting high-quality results. Let’s break down simple, effective ways to train your staff so they’re ready to tackle any task.
Develop a training program: Give your team access to different training methods, from online cleaning training courses to practical assessments. Establish clear guidelines and KPIs to track if anyone is falling behind.
Focus on core skills: Start with fundamental skills like dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitization. Brief them on which cleaning products work best on which surfaces. Once they’ve gotten a hang of the basics, you can transition to more specialized cleaning such as carpet and window cleaning.
Emphasize safety and compliance: Cleaners often work with dangerous chemicals and equipment on the job. Training on the proper handling of these can help keep your team safe from unwanted accidents.
Enhance soft skills: Make sure your team has the complete package by allowing them to work on their soft skills, too. Things like time management and proper communication can mean all the difference between an angry and a loyal customer.
Evaluate and analyze room for improvement: Train your team to focus on their growth by evaluating where they can improve. This way, you can build a highly competitive team that can confidently and consistently deliver great results.
