10 Plant inspection training courses for competent workers

One of the end goals of plant inspection training is to enhance the safety within the organization. Through this course, your inspectors will gain a firm grasp of the fundamental aspects of workplace safety. Topics include common slip, trip, and fall hazards, the correct use of PPE, and safe lifting techniques.

These lessons can help your inspectors spot everyday risks. Using checklists, they can take note of workers not wearing the appropriate gloves or notice poorly maintained flooring that increases fall risk. Such observations are crucial for maintaining regulatory compliance in the manufacturing industry.

Help your inspectors understand the dynamics of warehouse and yard vehicles within manufacturing environments. Mitti (by SafetyCulture)’s Vehicle Awareness course covers key topics such as the types of vehicles commonly encountered, their rights of way, and the critical issue of blind spots that can lead to accidents.

Through warehouse safety training courses like these, your plant operators can learn to identify common hazards like unsafe vehicle movements, poor pedestrian-vehicle separation, and gaps in PPE usage. This is useful to aid their daily inspection routines and improve your company’s risk mitigation procedures.

This electrical safety course by Mitti (by SafetyCulture) is structured to deepen your inspectors’ understanding of safe electrical practices in the workplace. The modules cover essential topics such as working with energized and de-energized systems, identifying hazards, and responding to electrical accidents.

Your inspectors gain access to practical modules on first aid and accident response, along with a final assessment to test their understanding of the lessons. Through this course, they can develop sharper hazard recognition and a more proactive approach to risk management. It also lists common mistakes workers make when operating electrical wires to better guide their inspection process.

Educate your manufacturing inspectors about the key safety protocols and operational standards for crane and hoist operators. This four-part industrial plant inspection course emphasizes the importance of preventive maintenance and crane inspection techniques to keep your manufacturing cranes in top condition.

The lessons discuss the critical role of signalers, how to spot early signs of mechanical wear during routine walkarounds, and documentation gaps in maintenance logs. Your team can also learn how to distinguish between correct and incorrect inspection frequencies related to crane maintenance.

Welding safety is another crucial aspect of plant inspections as it directly affects the safety of your crew and the integrity of plant operations. Through this course, your inspectors can evaluate not only the quality of welds but also make sure that all welding activities adhere to established safety standards and procedures.

Some topics included in this course are the basics of welding, common welding methods, and the proper use of welding equipment. It also identifies key hazards, such as exposure to fumes, burns, electric shock, and fire risks. The course ends by detailing the importance of correct PPE usage to minimize injuries and improve hazard recognition.

Conveyors are staples in many manufacturing sites. However, when used incorrectly, they can cause severe injuries, even to the most experienced workers. This course can help your inspectors promote hazard recognition and emergency preparedness. Its topics cover conveyor hazards, lockout/tagout procedures, and high-risk situations.

In practical inspection scenarios, they can spot issues faster, like unguarded nip points, improper lockout/tagout practices, or limited signage around conveyor zones. Industrial safety courses like these can help them better evaluate conveyor safety protocols on-site.

This machine safety course offers your team a focused look at the hazards associated with workplace machines and equipment. They can learn the risks associated with moving parts, entanglement, and mechanical failures. The lessons also share various methods of machine guarding to help reduce exposure to these dangers.

The course highlights the importance of conducting pre-and post-operation safety checks to identify potential issues before and after machine use. These help inspectors assess machinery safety during their plant visits and evaluate whether safeguarding measures are properly implemented.

Wilkinson Coutts’s plant inspector certificate offers general guidelines for industry workers handling fixed-pressure equipment. They can learn the basic principles of risk-based inspection (RBI), in-service piping monitoring, and storage tank inspection. Overall, the lessons in this course align with the standards set by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Oil and gas inspectors doing a manufacturing site visit can take this course to learn about the basics of plant inspection. Applying codes and standards, the course discusses the design of pressure vessels, process piping, common damage mechanisms, and welding procedures. Your team can also learn about destructive testing and non-destructive examination (NDE).
