Riggers are responsible for executing agile load movements across the construction site. Equip them with the best skills to plan, manage, and conduct successful lifts using these 10 rigger training courses.
Moving heavy loads with large machines naturally poses risks to the integrity and safety of your site. Preventing these hazards requires skilled, cautious, and strategic riggers who can oversee lifts precisely.
This is why professional rigging courses are valuable to the success of your projects. They teach your team the best operational practices to secure and relocate loads without compromises. Through secure and compliant methods, riggers can reduce costs and preserve lives.
What is rigger training?
Rigger training is a specialized construction course for crew members who plan, manage, and set up rigging systems to move heavy loads. It covers the essential skills and knowledge needed to attach and secure materials to lifters and successfully relocate objects.
This training equips your team with the expertise to perform safe and efficient lifting operations, qualifying them for this demanding construction task. Course topics include:
The duties and responsibilities of riggers
Basic rigging equipment operations
Pre-work setups, installations, and inspections
Load weight and center of gravity calculations
Safety management
OSHA requirements
Hand signals
Communication with equipment operators
Structure set up and dismantling
What is the role of a rigger?
Riggers are expected to coordinate and assemble stable lifts for objects across the site. They must manage the movement of heavy loads, without risking damage from collapses, falls, or strikes. Overall, they lead lifting operations while keeping everyone safe.
To accomplish this, riggers are required to:
Conduct risk analyses such as hazard assessments, environmental checks, and stability computations
Implement mechanical lifting safety protocols
Strategize rigging configurations, structures, and maneuvers
Select and operate the proper tools for rigs. They can choose from slings, hooks, cables, chains, and similar hardware.
Inspect, maintain, and service equipment
Coordinate with crane operators, hoist operators, forklift drivers, and telehandlers
Build a safe and agile construction site with rigger training
Given the increase in costs, demands, and requirements in construction, you must identify opportunities to streamline projects. In complex rigging operations, minimizing risks and mistakes is essential for keeping sites on track.
